Prajnesh Gunneswaran exits from Australian Open after defeat in Second qualifiers : Indian Tennis player Prajnesh Gunneswaram marks his exit from the Australian Open 2022 after his defeat against Germany’s Maximilian Marterer by a score of 6,2 7,6. It was the first time the two players went head-to-head and Marterer has secured his first win against the Indian.
The match was being played at the 13th court of the Rod Laver Arena in Melbourne, Australia.
Marterer won the first set (Prajnesh Gunneswaran exits from Australian Open after defeat in Second qualifiers)
Marterer won the first set with a comfortable lead of 4 games, after 2-2 he won four consecutive games to outclass the 221st ranked opponent. Prior to the second set, Prajnesh began to lose power and precision which helped the German to gain an advantage in the first set.
After being down 6-2, and 4-2, Prajnesh made a comeback winning 3 consecutive games and stretched the set to a tiebreaker. After a thrilling encounter in the last match draw the 228th ranked emerged victorious and assured his entry in the Australian Open.
Prajnesh became the third Indian to lose a seat in the Australian Open after Ramkumar Ramanathan and Ankita Raina. Both the Indian tennis players were unable to reserve a spot in the second round of qualifying stage.
Yuki Bhambri still has his second qualifiers which will be played against Czech tennis player Tomas Machac on 13th January. Yuki Bhambri currently has a 1000+ plus rank at the ATP and his opponent at the second round, Tomas is ranked 130.
