Punjab Government agreed on 12 demands of Farmers, agitation rests down

Taruni Gandhi, Punjab Government : The meeting which lasted for about two hours between CM Bhagwant Mann, the leader of farmer unions in the movement on the Mohali border, has ended. An agreement was reached between the two parties in the meeting. Soon the front of the farmers in Mohali will end the agitation.

Farmer leaders say that 12 out of 13 demands have been agreed upon. The Punjab government has assured to hold talks with the Centre regarding a bonus of Rs 500 per acre on wheat. However, information about which demands were agreed upon is yet to come. Soon the farmer leaders will come out and give information about this. The farmer leaders had warned that he would march to Chandigarh if the consensus was not reached. Now, this proposed Chandigarh March seems to be postponed.

The Panchayat Minister of Punjab Government Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal will give information about the decision on behalf of the government. He will go to the farmers’ front at YPS Chowk in Mohali. There he will announce the decision of the government.

Demands laid by Farmers

  • The Punjab government should give a bonus of Rs 500 per acre due to less wheat bush.
    The decision to install chip electricity meters should be canceled.
  • A notification should be issued regarding the purchase of maize and moong at MSP.
  • A notification should be issued by declaring the price of Basmati at Rs 4,500 per quintal.
  • Reinstatement of representative of Punjab in Bhakra Beas Management Board (BBMB).
  • Get the power from the central pool restored as before.
  • Electricity and canal water should be available to farmers from June 10 for planting paddy.
  • To increase the load of farming motors, the fee should be reduced from 4,800 to 1,200.
  • The arrears of sugarcane crop should be paid immediately with the increase of Rs 35 in the price.
  • Warrants and attachments of farmers should be closed due to loans. 22 thousand cases against banks should be returned. Farmers’ loans should be waived off as per the election promise.
  • Stop snatching the lands of the settled farmers in the name of Panchayati lands.

Farmer leader Harinder Lakhhowal said that we had a meeting with CM Bhagwant Mann a month ago. He had assured me to accept the demands in 10 days. After this, neither the demands were accepted nor did Mann give time for the meeting again. After this, we gave an ultimatum till May 17, but the government did nothing. Today we had a meeting with CM, in meeting the government agreed on 12 demands.
