Taruni Gandhi Chandigarh : Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann visited late Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala’s residence on Friday, 5 days after the murder and offered condolences to the bereaved family. Mann reached Moosewala’s house in Moosa village at around 10 am and spent about an hour with his family.

Heavy police force was deployed outside Moosewala’s residence in view of the Chief Minister’s visit. On May 29, Sidhu Moosewala (28) was shot dead by unidentified assailants in Mansa district. The incident took place a day after the state government pruned security for Moosewala.

His cousin and a friend, who were traveling in the jeep with Moosewala, were also injured in the attack. Ahead of Mann’s visit, villagers staged a protest against the Punjab Police for allegedly preventing them from entering Moosa village.

However, the police categorically denied this saying that no one was stopped from entering the village. At the same time, ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Gurpreet Singh, who reached Moosewala’s house before Mann’s visit, also faced opposition. The protesters also raised slogans against the state government. A villager claimed, “Our vehicles are being stopped from entering the village. Vehicles of our relatives are not being allowed to enter.”

AAP accused Congress of doing “dirty politics

Meanwhile, AAP accused the Congress of doing “dirty politics” over the killing of Moosewala. The ruling party’s chief spokesperson Malvinder Singh Kang claimed that some Congress leaders and supporters, including a former MLA, were creating trouble. “The whole of Punjab is watching him,” he said. Punjab ministers Harpal Singh Cheema and Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal had met Moosewala’s family in Mansa on Thursday to condole the singer’s death.

Moosewala was among 424 people whose security cover was either temporarily pruned or reduced by the Punjab Police on May 28. The Punjab and Haryana High Court was informed on Thursday that the security cover of 424 people whose security was temporarily withdrawn or downgraded would be restored from June 7.

The Punjab government had reduced the security arrangements in view of the anniversary of ‘Ghallughara Week’ and ‘Operation Bluestar’. The Indian Army launched ‘Operation Bluestar’ in June 1984 to flush out terrorists from the Golden Temple complex. Mann has announced the formation of a judicial commission, headed by a sitting High Court judge, to probe the murder of Moosewala.
