- Speed up the flagship project Mohalla Clinic
Taruni Gandhi, Chandigarh : After ousting Punjab Health Minister Dr. Vijay Singla from the cabinet, now CM Bhagwant Mann himself will handle the health ministry. It is clear that now the CM himself will see each and every file of investigation in the case. The sacking of Dr. Vijay Singla as the state’s health minister comes at a time when the Aam Aadmi Party’s flagship program is set to dedicate 75 mohalla clinics to the public in less than three months.
As per CMO senior officials, After Bhagwant Mann took over the ministry himself, now the scope of investigation against Singla seems to have increased. Along with investigation, for the flagship project, the department is in process of buying 1015 laptops, 500 desktops, 1450 printers, etc. for Mohalla clinics.
For this goods worth 20 to 25 crores are also to be purchased. Hence, CM Mann is himself checking on the files and preparations being made to set up these health centers at a fast pace, so that these centres can be opened before the completion of six months of the government.
CM held a meeting on 20 May
The CM has already given his approval to convert non-functional service centers into mohalla clinics across the state. These service centers are to be refurbished on a similar pattern with basic internal components including doctors’ room, reception-cum-waiting area, pharmacy as well as separate toilets for staff and visiting patients. In this regard, on May 20, the CM held a meeting with the department, in which Singla was also present.
With the expulsion of Singla, the posts of eight ministers are now lying vacant in the Punjab cabinet. When initially 10 ministers were inducted as cabinet ministers, many senior leaders including Baljinder Kaur, Sarabjit Kaur Manuke, and Aman Arora were overlooked. However, in the midst of all this, there is no possibility of any cabinet expansion, because the CM has now kept this department to himself.
