Srikanth Share an Emotional Message: Kidambi Srikanth sends an emotional message after withdrawal from India Open due to COVID-19. Following his pull-out from the upcoming India Open 2022, World Championship silver medallist Kidambi Srikanth posted a message for his supporters on his official Instagram account. At the present India Open 2022 badminton competition in New Delhi, Kidambi Srikanth, Ashwini Ponappa, Ritika Thakkar, Treesa Jolly, Mithun Manjunath, Simran Singh, and Khushi Gupta are among 7 players who have tested positive for COVID-19.
It’s Difficult to Leave Tournament Without a Fight
In his statement, Kidambi Srikanth stated that in spite of being aware of his surroundings, he tested positive for COVID-19. He noted that while it’s difficult to leave the tournament without a fight, it’s also critical for him and others to rest and return strong for the next tournaments. He went on to say that the symptoms are minimal.
Tested Positive Players Will Not be Replaced
The seven players also had a doubles pair that was believed to be in close contact and tested positive after an RT-PCR test on Tuesday. The players that tested positive will not be replaced in the main draw of the India Open, and their opponents will be granted a walkover.
KD Jadhav Indoor Hall Hosting the Event
After a two-year interruption caused by the coronavirus pandemic, the India Open badminton competition, a BWF World Tour Super 500 event, has returned. The KD Jadhav Indoor Hall at the Indira Gandhi Stadium is currently hosting the Indian Open badminton tournament. The India Open 2022 is being held in India from the 11th to the 16th of January 2022.
