Lakshya Sen Becomes First Indian to Win Debut India Open: Indian Shuttler Lakshya Sen wins debut Yonex Sunrise India Open after defeating reigning world champion Loh Kean Yew with a score of 24-22 and 21-17 in a gripping final on Sunday in New Delhi. The match lasted 54 minutes against the Singaporean rival which made Lakshya the first Indian to win their debut India Open. Loh Kean Yew beat Indian shuttler Kidambi Srikanth last December to win a World Championship title. This cup is Lakshya Sen’s first Super 500 title before he had won the bronze medal after losing from Srikanth in 2021.
Lakshya Scored Two Consecutive Points
In the first game, Lakshya had a staggering lead of 16-10 but Singapore’s Loh equalized at 19-19. Following the draw, a major set of rallies was witnessed resulting in a 24-22 victory for the Indian. The second game was equally placed between both the players until 17-17 after which Lakshya scored two consecutive points and won the game and his maiden India Open title.
Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty Secured India Duo
Another cup victory was secured by the Indian duo of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty after defeating top seed Indonesian pair of Mohammad Ahsan and Hendra Setiawan by a score of 21-16, 26-24 on Sunday. Other final matches of India Open concluded as Hee Yong Kai Terry and Tan Wei Han of Singapore outplayed Malaysia’s Chen Tang Jie and Peck Yen Wei to win the Mixed doubles category by a score of 21-15 and 21-18.
