Badminton Player Tasnim Mir: India’s 16-year-old Shuttler Tasnim Mir becomes the first Indian to be entitled as World no.1 in U-19 Girls singles. The Gujarat-born badminton player after a successful year with three junior international title wins hopped three places to secure the top position in the global rankings.
Tasnim won Three Events
Tasnim Mir gave a statement after attaining the first position, “I can’t say that I expected this. I thought I will not be able to become no 1 as tournaments were getting affected by COVID-19 but I won three events in Bulgaria, France, and Belgium.”
She further added, “So, I am really excited and happy that finally, I could become the world no 1. It is a great moment for me.” Tasnim feels really great when she hears that she is the first Indian which motivates her for her future matches.
In Senior International Rank Tasnim on 602 in Women’s Singles
Tasnim in the Senior international rank has a low-lying position of 602 in Women’s singles. Regarding her position in the senior category she spoke, “I will completely focus on the senior circuit from now on and looking forward to playing at Iran and Uganda next month. My aim now is to improve my senior ranking.” Her objective for the upcoming year was also stated by her, “if I can weave some good performances and get into top 200 by end of the year that would be great.”
Win an Olympic Gold Medal is her Goal
Tasnim Mir mentions that she is the first Indian as even two-time Olympic medalist P V Sindhu and London bronze medalist Saina Nehwal have not been able to achieve it and plans to go further and win an Olympic Gold medal which is her goal. On the other hand, in Boy’s singles, Lakshya Sen, Aditya Joshi and Siril Verma have been in the first rank.
