Rafael Nadal wins Melbourne Title prior to Australian Open : January 10, 2022. New Delhi. Spanish Tennis player Rafael Nadal beat American Maxime Cressy by a score of 7-6 (8/6), 6-3 in the Melbourne Summer set finals.
His Australian Open training has remained consistent and has started the season with a positive note. Nadal decided to play the lower-level tournament to get some practice before the Australian Open as he was injured and infected with Covid-19 most of 2021.
Nadal was not able to fully dominate in the title match against Cressy as the American pushed hard in the first set. This however was short lived for the 24-year-old American who was outclassed in the second set of the match. Once Nadal had claimed the win in the tie in the first set, he showed brilliant performance in the second set losing only 3.

Nadal commented that he was not in perfect shape, but he was content with his form. He added, “Exactly where I would like to be is being 100 percent healthy from last year, playing until the end of the season,and with not having come back after five, six months awayfrom competition.”
This win was Nadal’s 89th title win in ATP tournaments. Currently ranked 6th, Rafael Nadal aims to break the record for most Grand Slam singles titles in the upcoming Australian Open this month.
Nadal had suffered through injuries and Covid throughout of 2021. Nadal on his absence commented, “There have been some very challenging moments, and I have been working very hard even in the very tough moments.”
“I am quite satisfied the way that I approached all these verychallenging months in terms ofattitude, in terms of positivespirit and in terms of passion to try to be back.”
Nadal said that the Melbourne summer set was a good start to the season, “this title helps to keep going, and it’s of course just thebeginning.”
