The ATP Finals : With a clash against Australia’s Thanasi Kokkinakis in the semifinals of the ATP Tour for the first time in four and a half years, Monfils defeats him with a score of 7-5, 6-0. The match was played in Adelaide International 1 and took 80 minutes for the result. (The ATP Finals)
After a spirited 5-5 clash between Monfils and Kokkinakis, the French Tennis player won eight straight games to secure a spot in the finals. Monfils is now set to face off against Russia’s Karen Khachanov in the finals and play for his 11th ATP Title.
In the semifinals, Monfils bagged 67 points whereas Kokkinakis managed to win 48 points. The French Tennis player had a good service rate which included 28/33 of his points, 85% of his wins. Kokkinakis won four aces and Monfils had seven aces. In the second set, Monfils overpowered his opponent with a whitewashing score of 6-0. (The ATP Finals)
Other ATP Tour finalist Khachanov, commented on his two yearlong trophy win gap, “The last two years I didn’t win tournaments, so for me to make it to another final, it’s very important”. He further added that “Obviously, I will fight like a dog tomorrow, and let’s see what happens.”
This will be Khachanov’s first ATP Tour final since November 2018 against Novak Djokovic at the Rolex Paris Masters. Karen Khachanov defeated World Rank 3 Marin Cilic, in the semifinals of the ATP Tour at Adelaide with a score of 7-6(3) 6-3. (The ATP Finals)
